If you are a commercial driver or run a fleet of commercial vehicles in the US, you’re sure to know all about (and have an associated headache about) the new Department of Transportation (DoT) mandate.
Indeed, the DoT recently issued their final ruling, mandating that every driver who operates a commercial vehicle must use electronic logging devices (ELDs) instead of paper logs to document their hours-of-service record and Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) upon usage.
If you don’t currently use electronic logging, the good news is that you don’t have to be fully compliant until November 30, 2017. But there’s much to understand before you do and although it sounds like a bit of a headache, switching to electronic logging certainly offers a plethora of benefits. DOT statistics show that almost half (40.6%) of HOS violations result from inaccurate reporting of duty status and inaccurate reporting and failure to comply with DOT regulations can result in hefty fines and penalties. Those you do not want!
If you’d like some advice on why and how to become compliant, Trimble will be hosting an interactive webinar on Wednesday, February 10th. Experts will highlight the key points of the mandate, explain how to become compliant before the deadlines and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you have.
